Hello all,

I've posted about the gurgling noises coming from within but because I'm so focussed on trying to figure out what is up with me....here I am again.

Anybody experience the below happening but ALWAYS worse at night?

I get up in the a.m. have one or two of my loose, foul smelling, BMs and seem to make it through the day alright. I eat a normal breakfast and lunch and my stomach doesn't seem to go too crazy. The odd sound here and there but nothing at all like happens in the evening.

But once I have dinner, it seems like within 2 hours or so, the noisy, embarassing gurgling, etc begins and within in an hour or two, I'm back to the toilet for another of the loose, gross BMs. I find myself walking away from groups of people once this starts, My dear wife always thinks something is wrong, but I'm just too embarassed to have these noises be heard by all.  Even after that when I lay in bed, it (gurgling) goes crazy. My wife must think an alien is going to pop out of me one day and grab her! This has gotten worse in the last month or so. (not her fear of the alien...the gurgling..lol)

Pretty sure I'm flaring (moderate UP) and have been taking my Asacol, Cortifoam (every 2nd night), as well as other assorted supplements, probiotics, Olive Leaf Extract, Digestive Enzymes, Metamucil...well, you get the drift.

The loose smelly stools keep getting dismissed all the time by my GP and the last few visits I had with my GI...IBS is what they say. I could live with the loose stools, it's the gurgling and stench that are presently driving me crazy.

Don't get to see the GI until the 17th of Aug.

Anybody have any words of wisdom?

Thanks!

Yes, I get this gurgling soon after I eat too. I think it has to do with the stool moving through the bowel after you are pushing more food in, but I don't know what the gurgling is from either. Maybe just overactive digestion? Sometimes I get it really bad, other times not so bad. No words of wisdom here, just letting you know I deal with it too.

considering you have a bm in the morning...it's on its way there during the night.

USE the bentylol before bedtime.

USE the enemas nightly.

When are you seeing the GI?

hope the alien stays put until then....wouldn't he be shocked???

LOL!

Yes, my sister in law told me that "trick" many years ago as she had IBS and always went to the bathroom after dinner out and used the matches.

So..the trick with the matches means I've just got to accept that I stink!!!

I'd feel with the stench that I may blow the whole bathroom up! lol

I think it would be best to find a product you can use in the toilet instead or after you're in the bathroom...

The match smell is offensive as well...best ask your family if they'd be offended by that smell before you use it.

Mind you, the match trick won't do anything for the reason you're having it...

Mind you because i go so often there usually isnt a bad bad smell cause it aint been in there that long so u could also look at your diet and change foods to less offensive on the way out ......go with the match though i know everybody would prefer a match smell than a stench.....dont ya think????????????/good luck try it and let us all know how ya go.....cheers

My gas and BMs are both foul smelling any time of day. Gross actually.

Kind of a funny moment the other night. Was lying on the floor watching some tv and passed gas in the "other" direction. I had not detected the scent and my 8 yr old son came to give me a kiss goodnight, I rolled over and he's standing there holding his nose. "You stink Dad!" were his words. Ouch!

Yeah, that would bite a tad. When's the appointment with the GI?
You should get checked again for h. pylori.

Maybe an alien is truly developing in there....lol!

Have you been taking the digestive enzymes faithfully, sometimes or not at all?
Is the gas you have worse when you take them (the day before or at least 6 hours before)?

A conundrum indeed.

They say that once you test positive for H Pylori it seems to linger fro subsequent testing...don't know what that's all about.

I see him on the 17th of August...can't come quick enough!

Had a weird incidence last night. I've had a bit more heartburn while away on vacation and went to bed about midnight, woke up around 2:30 or so with a strange taste in my mouth, (acidy kind of taste) seemed like I was regurgitating so ran to the bathroom because I thought I was going to vomit...spit up some phlegm, throat is sore. Seemed to be related to lying down because when I sit up it disappears. Seems to be GERD like but strange it happened like that. Now that I think of it I think it has happened to me before too.

Freaked me out a bit just the same...ruined my sleep which is beginning to take it's toll on me.

That's normal for reflux, and remember you have a hiatal hernia..classic symptoms of that.

I do hope you're taking the ppi the GP gave you for that.

If it happens at night and you need to get to sleep and ease that feeling, take a bit of baking soda in water or if you have ENO..that helps.

You will never get rid of the reflux, for it cannot really be healed, the meds for it are necessary, however, to help prevent damage to anything above your stomach.

I lost my voice for a while because of reflux...diagnosed by an ENT. The meds have helped...now I can sing along with my fave tunes while driving without having to turn it loud enough where I can't hear myself..lol! even though my music is usually pretty loud anyway..

What will you be asking the doc to check for exactly when you see him. Good you've gotten in fairly quickly.

Makes me really happy that I now have to deal with GERD stuff too!

The PPI was only a short term thing...only to take with my Antibiotics for the H-Pylori. Will have to try and get in to the GP next week or at least call to get more meds.

Well...what to ask the GI?? Don't even know where to begin.
Several issues:
- what is up with my UP, i.e. time for another C-scope?
- why the slow but steady increase in my lipase levels, did read a piece today about some IBD sufferers showing an increase in these.
- meds, are mine working?

There are likely more, I will have to write a list out. He'll be happy to see me!

I'm sure the GI will be elated!!! lol! you keep him challenged at the very least.

What's the piece/article you read regarding lipase levels?

The PPI should have been continued I would think....you can purchase Zantac 150mg and take them twice a day. Nice to have a once a day pill, mind you. Can you not call for a repeat for the ones you took that the GP had you on...the pharmacy could probably do that for you.

Most people deal with GERD.....just they don't know it. don't you now feel normal??? heehee At least we can take something to help from our upper digestive tract to be eaten away....

I'm missing one point about what's up with your UC...you have UC and you will flare. What are you confused about?

But I think at the end of year one with the same doc, you should have another scope to make sure all is as it should be considering you're on meds.

You could ask him to send you for a pancreatic ultrascope or MRCP.
