I think it's time to resurrect some fun threads don't y'all agree?  I've been sort of "missing" lately due to arthritic problems in my hands but I got an awesome steroid injection yesterday and I have my hands back.......so watch out!!!  turn

This fun thread is going to be about:

What are your hobbies? What do you really enjoy doing?

We've had this topic in the past but I thought I would start another one since we have so many new members.  And besides, hobbies change smilewinkgrin

I will go first.  There are a lot of things that I enjoy, however it has to be WARM outside.  I am NOT a cold weather person though I live in a northern state (go figure!).  The number one thing that I enjoy most is reading.  You name it, I've probably read it (as long as it's fiction and murder mystery novels! LOL).  Closely followed after reading is going for motorcycle rides with the hubby.  I absolutely love a ride out in the open air on a warm sunny day.  I don't drive - I'm the passenger :-) I love getting together with friends who have bikes and just GO!  In the summer, I am hardly indoors.  I either have my hands in the dirt, on a book or in a leather jacket!

Ok, so now it's your turn! Let's see what we have in common!!  yeah

I also love to read! (and for mysteries, have you ever read Janet Evanovich? She's *hilarious*.)

I love to cook and bake, to be outside doing whatever, and of course, to play with my son!

Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Diagnosed with pancolitis on 1/30/09
Currently taking Apriso (4 pills ONCE!! daily), Rowasa twice weekly, Natural Factors Ultimate probiotic 12/12 Formula, and Zoloft (25 mg).

*high fives for Janet Evanovich* =]

I like to go fishing. The weather here has been crappy (ha) and I haven't gone yet! I've been feeling good too...so...we'll see.

I like to bake anything and everything even though I end up giving most of it away since I shouldn't be eating some of it. I also like to just be outside and be away from home and my bed since I've spent a lot of time there in the past couple of years.
22 years old

Diagnosed with moderate/severe UC June 2007, I've had it since December 2006.

Taking Lialda 3x a day<---NOT ANYMORE. I got pancreatitis from them (?).
I stopped taking Lialda 8-19-08. Ugh!
All I take now is just my 3 Entocort, and 1 iron pill in the afternoon.

NOW back on Lialda as of 8-30-08, not the cause of pancreatitis.
Going in for an endoscopic ultrasound on 9-19-08 to check things out.
Still on Entocort and iron. Yay...

Haven't been on here in a while (finally graduated college).
Update as of 5/26/09 - Now taking Imuran 100mg/day.
Taking Caltrate, iron, A, D, and B12. I still take 2 Lialda a day.
At least I'm off the Entocort.

I also love to read. I'll read anything you put in front of me (cereal boxes, advertisements) but mysteries are also my favorites. Do I see a trend here? I love to cook and to bake pies. I love taking pictures.

My newest love is working out with my awesome new trainer. This is really strange for me, because I've spent my life devotedly avoiding the gym, and now I love it. I think because she's the first person who has ever been able to give me a decent workout that doesn't leave me in pain for a week.

So what should I buy?

I make videos on the internet, write songs and play video games. Oh, and around this time of the year, I like sitting in inner tubes in rivers.

Diagnosed left-sided UC 2006
Present medication - 3x3 Asacol - 1x Canasa when things are going extra poorly - Imodium for confidence - acidophilus
Insurance - The kind the Montana gives you when you get rejected by the private jerks enough times. Allergic to sulfa, so I'm stuck with a $400 a month drug bill
Diet - No Beer :-(. Everything except raw fruits / veg and anything with seeds.

BTW? Why do they even put sesame seeds on hamburgers, it's the meanest thing ever.

I am a huge dog person, at the moment I have two Standard Poodle's and my third one is just one week old and she will join our household in January next year.
I try to do as much with my dogs as I can, they keep me company when I am sick and I reward them with long walks when I feel better :)

I also show them and train them like tracking, obedience and agility.

Apart from my dogs I read allot of books, I try to read at least one every week to keep my mind going. I just read fictionb at the moment but this fall I am going to College to learn history so I will read a lot of history books :P

And me and my finance are big Car lovers we have three cars Fiat Multipla(ugliest car in the world) Honda Civic and VW Polo.
They are all older than 8 so there is always something that we can fix :)
We dont like new cars because there are nothing you can fix or improve on them so we try to buy older cars and fix them up and make them feel young again.

I am also very frugal and I love finding ways I can save money :) It is a big hobby for me. I read all the frugal blogs on the Internet and try to look for the best deal when I need to buy something. I am also always competing with myself on how much I can put aside each month to save.

I used to hunt fish and birds but have not been able to do that the last year because of UC but I hope I can go this fall.

I am a big hiker also but I am giving it a rest like so many other things because of this Disease :(

That's about it i think
24 year old female

I love to hang out with my husband. He is an athletic trainer and gets to watch sports for his job! I also love to do stuff with my 5 years old daughter, Alexis. She is learning to read, so that has been very exciting.

I love to read. Janet Evanovich is on my list of someone to try after I finish the stack of books that I've already got! I also love arts and crafts. Scrapbooking, counted cross stitch.

I am also a runner. I got a new pair of running shoes yesterday (ordered from a catalog) so I had to make sure I got up early this morning to give then a test run!

This is a great thread, good way to get to know everyone!

What I really enjoy doing:

1. Running - I used to play several sports competitively and running is like meditation to me. I planned my life around my daily runs, and then I started getting daily runs of another sort (i.e. D...from UC). And since I've had UC I haven't run much because it shakes things up and my symptoms seem to get worse after a run or a heavy workout. So, for now I'm doing yoga and it's a great workout too.

2. Reading - I will read almost anything and everything, and also write when I have the time. I think being an avid reader helps keep some sanity because when my symptoms were really bad and I was stuck indoors then a good book was a healthy distraction.

3. Traveling - I've lived in several countries and want to explore as much as I can.
Rio, 33 year old male. Diagnosed with UC in 2006
Azathioprine (stopped), 4800 mg Asacol

Hmmm yeah, I see a pattern here. So many of us like to read! But I agree Rio, reading can definately take our minds off being sick.

Janet Evanovich is probably the only author I haven't read yet. I pick up her books, read the back and put them back down. But I may have to go get one to see if I like her writing style.

I am breaking the pattern - hate to read!  LOL

I spend most of my time in front of the tv or the computer.  I do love to play with my dog some.  I also love traveling but our health has slowed that down.  At 69 there is more napping and less movng around.  Miss our boat and camper which we can't deal with so we sold them.  Shopping is fun with my friend and going to lunch!

By the way, dragoon5, I inherited some old coins - some foreign.  Wondering best way to find out what they are worth and selling them.  I don't think we have anything rare - just old!

Reading here too!!!  Must be because us UCer's are homebound so much.  We have an RV and LOVE  camping up near Hershey, PA where we have a seasonal spot this year from May 1st to Nov 1st.  Sorry to say I am suffering with this flare since Memorial Day and feel more comfortable here at home in south Jersey.  Closer to my GI doctor.  Love to take long walks too.  Very beneficial.

Wow, there are a lot of readers! Pretty much the only thing i read is the sports page lol. It's not that I don't like to read, it's just nearly impossible for me to actually pick up a book and start reading.

Sports is pretty much my main love. I play softball three times a week. That is if I can, I work 10:30 to 7 so i have to miss earlier games sometimes. I am from Minnesota so I love all MN sports teams. The Twins and Vikings are my favorites! When summer is over I like to try and play some pick up basketball games. This winter I'm hoping to be in a 3-3 league. I also enjoy watching movies and playing some video games. I'm also a bit of a TV watcher. I will NOT miss an episode of Lost. Brilliant TV show! Another one of my favs is Dexter on Showtime. I'm currently waiting for season 3 to come on dvd so no one better say anything if you watch!! Oh, and hanging with my lady friend ;)

Also, I have my facebook page as my homepage. Feel free to add me if you wish!

I also love to read. I particularly like science fiction, fantasy, and horror (I just started reading the Dresden Files books). Has nothing to do with UC, I've read like it was my job since I can remember.

I also watch TV, though I'm picky (favorites are Lost, Doctor Who, Fringe, and True Blood) and play video games. I've been playing them since I was really little, on my Dad's Atari. I'm also starting to get into tabletop gaming. I'm starting a game of Vampire: the Masquerade this week and might join my friends' exalted game. I'm a real nerd XD.

I also enjoy cooking, eating out, or anything else that has to do with food. I'm the chef in my family, unless you count my boyfriend. He's also a very good cook. Too good, maybe, cause I've definately gained weight since we started dating.

I'd also enjoy soccer or hockey, if I could find anybody to play with. =(

Golf.
I'm an avid golfer, 2-3 times a week. Not the easiest sport for a UCer, but I make it work.

And I love driving my new Lexus IS 350C hardtop convertible.

49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol maintenance for 20+ years; used prednisone & Rowasa for flares.  Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion), salmon oil (omega-3) when I can remember.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet.
Bad flare in March, used prednisone. Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12 and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow

Well if playing video games makes you a nerd that call me a nerd too! :) I can't do the console games because of my hands but I like the point and click computer games. Right now I am playing Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis and I am so hooked!

In the summer, I don't watch much tv mainly because all the good shows are done for the season. But I just started watching Dexter - borrowed season 1 &2 from friends. Totally twisted! lol In the fall I tend to watch shows like Bones, Supernatural, Fringe, House (LOVE LOVE House!), Ghost Whisperer. I watched quite a bit of Lost too but then it got too out there and so darn frustrating that I gave up.
