Hey eveyone-
I am new to the forum but not so new to UC.  I have been on so many different types of meds and can't seem to find the right combination.  I was just wondering what has been successful for everyone.  I keep getting info in the mail about how great Remicade is and my doctor called me a "Remicade Failure."  What are other options?
This question is for the ladies out there.  Anyone notice that the UC acts up when you have your monthly visit?  I am on birth control to try and control that, but it isn't 100% perfect.  Also, have any of you ladies successfully carried a baby and things went well?  What meds were you on and did you try to taper before you got pregnant?  My husband are planning to try and have a family in maybe a year and half and I have been trying to taper down now so that I am off and good, but the tapering is not going so well.  Any ideas?
Anyone else get tempted by there stash of prednisone in the medicine cabinet?  I have finally been off of that for about two months, but it sure beckons me when I feel crappy.  I just want to know that I am not alone in this battle.
Thanks guys and I look forward to going through our common struggle together!!

Yeah, I definitely get worse symptoms around my period and I ALWAYS seem to have it for visits to the GI. I think my abdominal organs are conspiring against me. =D

If you want to know about babies, try asking fruitgirl, she's got a young son.

Also, I don't know what meds you've been on right now, but I find using a combination of oral/rectal mesalamine is working well for me. But there are a lot of therapies out there now, including helminths (parasites) and some diets people swear by. Probiotics and omega-3's also seem to help a lot of people.

I always get worse before and after my period! I am also struggling to find the right meds, I am currently taking asacol foam enemas but am going to also try asacol tablets. I have gone 15 years without having really treated my colitis, I tried a few different pills along the way but all failed. I am now awaiting a sigmoidoscopy.

I do have 2 children aged 10 and 5 and I was a bit flared through both pregnancies but really flared after the birth. But my colitis is not well controlled because I can't seem to get on the right combination of drugs!
Ulcerative colitis for around 15 years (Im am 28 years old now)

15 years of untreated colitis

I am taking Asacol foam enemas 2 x a day

Calcium 3 x a day for osteoporosis

Actimint pre and probiotics 6 x a day

My biggest concern BOWEL CANCER :O(

I have had ulcerative proctitis for 25 years and was in remission for 5 years during one of the most stressful times in my life. Go figure.
Just started 6MP (along w/ other meds) and am placing myself on a diet combining gluten free, darrhea diet, no dairy, alcohol, caffeine, fresh fruit other than bananas and no vegetables other than cooked carrots, potatoes and spinach. Will see how it goes.

hi ya,

I had a blip the other week but other than that I am back on track. Im not med free but have almost got there. Im doing the raw foods diet. And so far I have had really good poos everyday. My blip was some mucus, but at least no blood. It cleared up again but i am staying on pentasa untill I really feel confident. i will try to get off but not until I am ready, I will give the diet 3 months at least before I try. I take 1 pentasa tablet and 1 asacol nightly. My last bloods showed no inflamtion from this diet. So a good start. I havent been doing this long though so if you want to speak with people who have had a sucess story and a perment one with no meds you can visit www.rawfoodsupport.com

speak to rawdanceruk she is amazing- she is healed from chrones and is living a normal life with out meds.
