Does anyone have problems that are way worse in the mornings?  I was told it is because when the rest of your body is resting during the night that your digestive system is still working.  Does anyone have a trick to avoid these problems?

Mornings are horrible.  After 11AM my problems are nothing like how they are from the time I wake up through late morning.  If I don't sleep through the night I may have problems during the night but always in the morning.  The digestion answer is interesting.  I have no idea how to stop this.  It keeps me from getting to work until 10-11AM and I live 5 minutes from my office.  I would love to hear any suggestions.

My morning routine is....out of bed...to the kitchen, turn on the Keurig coffee maker, then off to the bathroom
but...if I don't move fast enough to the kitchen, then it's the bathroom first....

skikraz - I go straight to the bathroom.

I have to allot a ton of time everyday! I wake up 3 hours before I need to leave for somewhere. I'm not flaring right now, but seriously, if I don't get it all out before I go somewhere, it's absolute hell. I just get the worst sour/upset/annoyed feeling in my stomach and my body can't handle it. eyes

I was like this (mostly) before I was even diagnosed or showed symptoms of UC. I don't know. My dad is the same way - he has to run to the bathroom sometimes - but he's fine.

Interesting..
22 years old

Diagnosed with moderate/severe UC June 2007, I've had it since December 2006.

Taking Lialda 3x a day<---NOT ANYMORE. I got pancreatitis from them (?).
I stopped taking Lialda 8-19-08. Ugh!
All I take now is just my 3 Entocort, and 1 iron pill in the afternoon.

NOW back on Lialda as of 8-30-08, not the cause of pancreatitis.
Going in for an endoscopic ultrasound on 9-19-08 to check things out.
Still on Entocort and iron. Yay...

Haven't been on here in a while (finally graduated college).
Update as of 5/26/09 - Now taking Imuran 100mg/day.
Taking Caltrate, iron, A, D, and B12. I still take 2 Lialda a day.
At least I'm off the Entocort.

I am worse In the mornings, I seem to suffer from terrible gas and sometimes have to run to the bathroom. It's weird though because sometimes I won't go to the toilet for 2/3 days but suffer lots of gas, then when I do actually go my bm will still be soft.

I also have trouble sleeping at night because I get indigestion and my bowels just don't feel totally settled. This disease has made me an extremely anxious person.

I have no idea how to stop it but I am going to try the SCD or the IBD remission diet to try and help.
Ulcerative colitis for around 15 years (Im am 28 years old now)

15 years of untreated colitis

I am taking Asacol foam enemas 2 x a day

Calcium 3 x a day for osteoporosis

Actimint pre and probiotics 6 x a day

My biggest concern BOWEL CANCER :O(

Yep. Same here... first thing in the morning to the bathroom. If I try to go back to bed, I may have to get up again. If I get up for good, I'm usually Ok. Once I eat, that seems to help a little to settle things. Good luck.
UC diagnosed January 05
Past Meds: Azasan (Imuran) - piercing chest pains after six days so tried different brand aka Azathioprine - morning nausea /didn't really help after more than 6 months, dicyclomine (still flared), Remicade - 7 treatments (stopping because no dramatic changes), allergy shots (03-07), levbid, prednisone (been off since nov. 08!)
Current meds: Asacol 2 - 3x, Aciphex (acid reflux), canasa and rowasa alternating every other night, konsyl (fiber 3 a day), multivitamin, caltrate 2x a day. probiotic (florasmart), astelin (nasal spray as needed for allergies), fosamax (bone density), Iron

I have the same problem. I wish there was a solution but I don't know of any. Besides stay close to the bathroom, which is not always possible and therein lies the rub.
UC since 1996 (age 20)
Mommy of 2 sweet little girls.
My life is one big flare.

Asacol, Azathioprine, Prednisone, Rowasa

I do better if I eat and have some coffee in the morning too (and exercise) because that really stimulates the bowels!
If I can get myself cleaned out good in the morning, then I'm actually better all day. So I'm glad for that result.
It just means allowing enough time...
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol maintenance for 20+ years; used prednisone & Rowasa for flares.  Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion), salmon oil (omega-3) when I can remember.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet.
Bad flare in March, used prednisone. Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12 and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow

Mornings are horrible for me as well.  Usually by mid-morning I am okay.  My stomachs is usually bloated and gurgles quite a bit.  Any relief for this would be wonderful.
