Hi everyone,
well, what can i say? Im so frustrated, dont even know where to begin. Me and my fiance have been trying to conceive for the last 7 months, and nothing was happening. My periods were irregular, and I finally went to OB, had some blood drawn, and they told me that I most likely havent been ovulating due to low progesterone levels.  So of course, what did they do for me?  Prescibed more drugs...specifically, a synthetic progesterone called Provera. What I failed to realize all this time, is that I have been on and off prednisone for years, mostly low doses such 10-20 mg for my UC. (diagnosed in 2001).  Now have been on  Remicade for about a year, but cant seem to get below 5 mg of pred.  Since pred suppresses the adrenal gland, which produces hormones, (progesterone being one of them) I believe that is why I havent been ovulating in the first place. But could being on low-dose pred for such a long time, really have such a drastic effect on hormone levels? Does anyone else have any experience with this?  I know I need to get off this horrible drug, but no other UC meds ever worked.  Is there anything I can do , any supplements I can take to help me along with the transition while trying to get off pred??  Any advice, suggestions, experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all so much.

ive been on pred a bunch last few years too. even high 60mg doses for weeks and weeks.

weve been trying for baby since march 2008. over a year now.
and nothing.
BUT i was on birth control for 14 years. and it takes a while to get out of system.
did blood test and im ovulating just fine they said.

i think in my case i actually have to have sex! when ur in pain in your bum, which shares a very thin wall from the love tunnel, its not very conducive to love making. if ya know what i mean!

ive never heard that pred causes any kind of infertility. all my docs know im trying and they havent mentioned anything about it even when we talk about not concieving yet.

hopefully its not that and your body is just waiting fro the perfect time!
steph - 33 - female - gold coast australia - UC since 2000
im in remission ~ wOOhOO !  no symptoms for last 2 weeks!
waiting for blood test to see if i can start imuran
just finished 3 months of prednisolone (worked) -tapered with no issues -left with moonface + fat! o.0
mesalazine granules 3g x1 a day (much nicer than a million tablets a day)
tumeric capsules, vitamin d3, enteric coated fish oil, xango juice 30ml x3 a day
pre-conception vitamins and minerals (cuz we trying to make a baby)
i still eat what i want, when i want, if i feel like eating at all ... diet doesn't affect my UC.

We are not trying to have another baby at this point, but as soon as I started taking pred, my periods completely stopped. They told me that pred doesn't cause that, but when I tapered off, voila-my cycles came back. I don't remember how low a dose I was on before they came back. However, I have been off the pred for almost a year now, and my cycles are JUST now getting back to normal. I am not convinced I have even been ovulating this entire past year.

I do know that I have always been extremely fertile, and since the pred, we have been careful, but not as careful as we should have been at times, and have never had a problem with surprise pregnancies, like in the past. Maybe it is age, but I feel like the pred really screwed things up.

Honestly, based soley on what I know for myself, I would not be surprised if even a low dose of pred could be the root of the problem. I am praying you can get this ironed out and get that baby you are hoping for. And Steph, I pray it happens for you as well. Hugs to you both.
