I know I have GOT to use my meds today before I go to work but the thought of it is awful, having been in the bathroom all morning.

Any suggestions for psyching myself up? Or maybe there's some numbing thing that people use? I never thought about it before but maybe something for hemmoroids?

Any ideas or pep talk will be appreciated!

Are you using them at night as well or just during the day?

You might want to ask the doctor for a prescription of dicyclomine...it does help somewhat for the spasming in the rectum...that might indirectly help.

Is it the asacol foam you're using during the day? You could use a lubricant of maybe hydrocortisone cream on the nozzle of the foam before inserting.

I feel for you that you've not gotten any resolve.

You could try proctocedyl...which is a prescription...but in an ointment form. It seems to work very well for any rectal irritation or hemmies.

I believe the name of a medicated numbing gel is called Lidocane aned I've gotten RX for it in the past as I too have painful anal issues.

Thanks for the advice. Guess how I solved the problem today? I actually forgot all about it and went to work without using my cortifoam.

I'm using the cortifoam twice a day now (when I don't forget) and then will hopefully be able to swtich back to the asacol foam when I'm in better shape.

The asacol foam is good for maintenance but it doesn't seem to stop the bleeding so I'm on cortifoam for now...

Cortifoam is the only rectal meds I ever use, the rest have no affect on me so it's pointless to bother with them anymore.

Lidocaine in the tube is awesome! My gastro always inserts a generous dose for the digital exam. A couple yrs ago that cured a persistent hemmie which had been bothering me for weeks; it worked like magic-- which we could all use in our UC lives. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
