I seen my new GI doctor today for my first colonoscopy with him. He said he would be very thorough and give me a full report post procedure. Background: my first GI Dr. told me that I have pancolitis. He was a nice guy but not a real conversationalist and so forth. Today's report was; that I do not have pancolitis, that I have some left sided colitis and there was scarring from active disease in the past. NO present inflammation and he cut my Asacol dosage in half!! His P.A. had me taking 3 pills 4X /day, and now he has me taking 3 pills 2X/day. This is all encouraging news for me! I am not as advanced as I thought I was!! BUT now I need to look into why I have some bad days along the way with mild flares ???
NEXT: I am starting to think that I should look into treating the IBS symptoms for some rectal relief, and maybe some anti-anxiety/depressants, because I am starting to think that many of my "bad days" are linked to depression/anxiety. I KNOW for a fact that I have made myself sick in the past by getting so stressed out, and lost control of my bowels. So, if my UC is truly in remission with no active disease processes, I really need to find out what in the h*** is making me feel so symptomatic sometimes. I am a FIRM believer in STRESS/ANXIETY etc playing a major role in GI maladies.
Diagnosed with UC in Dec of 1999
PANCOLITIS-mild to moderate (remission for 2 years +!!??...i don't know...I am just SO happy when I have a good day!!)

Absolutely, just had that discussion with my specialist.  He said to avoid stress and anxiety. I take Xanax and he told me to up the dose slightly if under more stress.  I know I have had IBS for years and anxiety made me very sick more than once.  I am going to try to eat better, lose some weight and avoid the stress and see how much it helps me!

Cannot tolerate mesalamines.  New specialist (June) - Cortifoam and Anusol three times a day for now.  Hope it works! (finding it impossible to do three times a day however)
Probiotic Align, Prilosec for GERD, Gas-X, vitamins, Calcium/D
Tylenol for knees and arthritis.
