Just had a GI visit the other day and had some blood work done. They called me yesterday and said I needed to follow up with my PCP because of abnormal creatinine level. Something to do with the kidneys. Has anyone had this? Just curious as to what this could be. I did some research on the web and I saw it could be any number of things. I don't feel like its anything serious, but my curiosity drives me nuts. I see my Dr. on Aug 17 unless he feels like I need to see him sooner. Thanks in advance for any feedback :)

Creatinine is normally filtered from the blood by the kidneys. Raised levels of creatinine might indicate a kidney problem. But any number of things could cause your kidneys to function abnormally, such as a mild infection. Docs like to do second test to make sure the levels have returned to normal.

Hi...could be infection, maybe a kidney stone?  could be from the 5ASA meds ...
Do the research and make a list of questions.  If this is somewhat elevated, other tests should be done to determine where the problem lies.

This might be helpful....it's scary to know what the possibilities are...but being informed is really the best thing for you.  At least questions can be asked and you'll understand the answers.

Thanks...I have noticed in the past that my kidney area would have a few small pains...Nothing to bad, but enough to notice...I didn't think anything of it though...It would just happen on occasion and then not happen for a while...Could possibly be the 5ASA like quincy said...I guess I will find out soon enough...In the meantime, I am going to try not to worry about it...
