I was diagnosed with severe pancolitis this past fall and am still in an active flare. I seem to be resistant to Prednisone (and have very bad side effects from it anway) and have had 3 staph infections since diagnosis. To top off the below deck symptoms I have developed cystic type acne that won't seem to go away. I'm in my thirties so this is definitely unexpected and quite a bummer. It's one thing to know that your colon isn't looking too good on the inside, but to feel and look rotten on the outside is a bit of a downer. I am currently on Asacol and Azathioprine. Anyone else experience acne from UC or meds other than the predinisone?

I used to get acne a lot, but I think it is just me, not necessarily the UC meds... not sure about that I guess. I use proactiv system and that has done wonders for me. I hardly ever get a zit anymore.
good luck!

The pred is probably causing it.

I have cystic acne, but I've also had it since I was a teenager, sooo...

I got horrible acne whilst on pred. It persisted for a couple of months after I finished taking it, then it gradually disappeared. Hope it improves for you.
Ulcerative Colitis: diagnosed as moderate pan-colitis August 2008. Prednisolone saved me.
Current meds: Azathioprine (100mg); Asacol (too much - 6 tablets twice a day); Pentasa enemas and suppositories as needed (both great).

I'm going to sound like a turmeric advocate, but I looked it up on Wikipedia and I guess it's pretty effective on cystic acne, you might look it up youself =)

Also, I've use the AcneFree system which is like a cheaper version of Proactiv and it seems to work fine. But I figure something cheap and natural is worth a shot.
