I have UC and its always been only left sided, but the last few days i have gotten needle pains about 4 inches right of BB, worrys me since i am considering surgery, i want to make sure its not a Crohns pain confused
24 year old guy, UC since I was 17
remicade for two years, worked OK but got married and was told it could cause birth defects so I quit feb 08. my wife reminded me that i still had D most of the time while on remicade.
Wanted to start a family Jan 09 so dr stopped 6mp, wife got preg in may so I am back on 6mp also lialda and 20 mg pred

starting back on at least one remicade IV to see if i can get some relief next week,
most likely having j-pouch surgery this year, within a couple months, so i can be healthy for my baby, meet with my dr about it august 10!

Abdominal pain is tricky, because it doesn't always hurt right where the problem is. The appendix is on the lower right, but I've seem people with appendicitis who had pain just under their rib cage.

That said, 4 inches to the right could be colon, small intestine, liver. Or it could be referred pain from the left colon. If you're unsure after you talk to the doctor, consider asking for an upper GI evaluation before surgery.

The appendix is attached to the colon so once the colon goes, the appendix goes with it!
