I discovered this Lactose free Ice cream, but I'm wondering how lactose free it is. I'm wondering if some of my issues are with this ice cream. I've studied it and still can't find the answer. Was wondering if anyone of you guys knew anything about this Ice cream.

I've never had it but I've used lactaid milk then I discovered that taking a probiotic daily and indefinitely (primadophilus reuteri) actually aids with lactose intolerance issues (and mine were severe) so I no longer have to use lactaid products (pills, milk, ect) this makes it so much easier and cheaper too.

I notice in your tag line you don't mention taking any probiotics, they can be very beneficial to IBD/IBS symptoms (a good probiotic that is, not just any kind)...the primadophilus also aids with high cholesterol and for women, vaginal health (no more yeast infections) and it has guaranteed intestinal release and only one/day is required.

One other thing, getting a lactose tolerant test done will ensure that it is infact lactose that you're having issues with and not casein allergy (casein is a protien in milk that some people are allergic to and although symptoms of lactose intolerance can mimic the symptoms of casein allergy they are 2 totally different issues).

:)

I agree with pb4 about the casein.  I've heard that problems with ice cream for people with digestive issues like IBS are more related to the casein and also whey that is in so many ice creams.  I had been puzzled as to why I couldn't eat ice cream without such terrible problems myself.  Then I read on the helpforibs site that whey and casein are more often than not the culprits.

I had the lactose-free ice cream awhile back; seemed to be a little better than regular ice cream.  But better than that for me was frozen vanilla yogurt.

I'm telling you guys- coconut milk ice cream! I posted about this a week or so ago- it's the BEST! I've tried every ice cream alternate out there- rice cream, soy milk ice cream, Lactaid ice cream. The coconut milk stuff is the way to go- totally dairy free, most are gluten free, a lot use low-glycemic sweeteners.... SO GOOD! I also can do frozen yogurt with little to no problems, depending on how much I eat in 1 serving.
diagnosed with UC '02

Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day

My daughter was tested when she had her EGD and is lactose intolerant. We never really noticed a problem, but do have her take a lactaid before doing dairy.

We discovered Breyer's Lactose Free vanilla ice cream and everyone in the family loves it. It tastes homemade.

Coconut milk ice cream sounds good!! Is it widely available or just at specialty places?

Lactaid Ice Cream tastes just like regular Ice cream, it's sooooooo addicting, will be disappointed if it's one of the causes of my minor flare.

Oh, yes, I love the Lactaid double chocolate chip ice cream, but I suspect it contributed to a couple flares in recent yrs so I'm not looking for it at the supermarket these days. Trying to think of it as "double trouble", lol. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Old Hat.... how do u think it triggered some of your flares? I'm trying to figure it out for me, but looking for someone else whose experienced it before me.

You can still drink the lactaid milk but taking the probiotic daily will possibly also aid with your IBD symptoms plus, you might be surprised at what products contain lactose, it's not just in dairy, this way you won't have to pop a lactaid pill when you decide to have certain flavored dortitos or ichiban soup (both contain lactose).

The thing is I'm not that lactose intolerant. just can't have the liquid stuff with milk in it. Frustrating is this thing I'm wondering about. :(

I agree with Eva, try coconut milk ice cream. My boyfriend has a casein allergy, and he swears by it (though it's hard keeping him from eating a whole pint in one sitting).

Sweetie, I doubt that anyone understands the biochemistry of triggers yet, but chocolate can be a trigger for some IBDers. For one thing, it has caffeine in it-- a stimulant. I love it, especially dark varieties, but my colon seems to behave better without it. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... )

well I tried Align...and it didn't do anything bad, but I didn't really see a difference either. And VSL #3 sounds good, but it's SO expensive.
I think I just need to get to a GNC or something and find a new kind of probiotic.

btw.. Doritos...not a good idea for me LOL. I stay away from most chips other than tostitos. Anyways I am really weird.. I can tolerate some cheese, ice cream etc, but ONE sip of reg milk and I am awful. So I just sorta..stick with what's good for my body I guess. Probiotics are good tho.

I went to elliots last weekend and got primadophilus reuteri for $23 for a 90 day supply. Personally I think that's a good way to go in saving money. I think it's working for me, not sure yet though.
