Does anyone know if getting the flu or cold increase the chances of a flare-up?

Could for some or if one is mildly flaring (remember that some of us don't have symptoms until inflammation is more marked), a cold can exacerbate it or make it more obvious.

Well, when I was flaring badly and got the flu it sure didn't help, lol. Other than that though, colds don't make my UC worse, and I get a flu shot every year, so I haven't gotten it again.

Whenever I'm around sick people or feel susceptible to colds/flu I start taking my vitamin c and do pretty well.

My kids and I get a flu shot every year. I work in a very public job which exposes me to all kinds of potential sick people. I guess I will have to avoid kissing my girlfriend when she is sick esp now that I am off Asacol.

Flu or bad colds make me flare.
So I always get the flu shot. I also avoid households with sick children!
But I still got an intestinal bug last year, it was awful. I lost 8 lbs overnight!
I would get over the illness but it would take much longer to get past the flare.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol maintenance for 20+ years; used prednisone & Rowasa for flares.  Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion), salmon oil (omega-3) when I can remember.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet.
Bad flare in March, used prednisone. Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12 and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow
