http://omicsomics.blogspot.com/2007/05/tale-of-two-drugs.html Have to scroll about mid way through the article.

That's pretty much the story behind it. Great concept several years ago, but another company beat them getting it out even though it didn't target the same area as MLN02. The other companies drug ended up killing people through brain infection. This sparked up the MLN02s project again since it didn't cross blood brain barrier and targeted gut specifically.

"The molecule, designated MLN02, is a laboratory-produced antibody that binds to alpha4beta7, a member of a molecular family called integrins. "Integrins are important in the adhesion of inflammatory cells to cells in the body," Simonian said. "This antibody specifically blocks the migration of integrins into the intestinal tract."

That specific activity is important because any treatment that blocks a harmful activity of the immune system runs the risk of blocking beneficial activity, such as defense against infection, she explained. "Because MLN02 is very selective for the gastrointestinal tract, it reduces the risk of untoward side effects," she said."

This just became available here as study, and there's only one person in first phase of getting started. It's an infusion like the remi. Good to have options.

So, no one has heard anything personally?

I may be first. It's nice actually getting paid to treat my disease. As long as it doesn't kill me. It is rather scary though with so few people that's in the trials so far.

Is it a double-blind study, or do you know you'll get the "real stuff." That's what I'm afraid of when it comes to drug studies...I'd be scared of getting the placebo and ending up in a massive flare!

You may get placebo at beginning, but if you get worse you go on the real thing usually. That's way most of these studies are. I know I am not getting placebo right now, even though the study I am in is supposed to be blind.

Where in TN do you live, if you don't mind me asking? A job at UT was just listed and I'm fairly interested in it. We currently live in WA state, all of our family lives in IN and MI, and we want to get back closer to family. While it's not super close, it's at least within driving distance, which is much better than our situation is now! There's also an interesting job north of Chicago, which would be closer to family, but Knoxville seems more appealing in terms of cost of living and climate! :)

Knoxville area is nice. You would have to become a Vol fan though. The whole state bleeds orange. I live in Dickson which is about 35 min West of Nashville. Takes me 3 hours to get to Knoxville.

Considering I went to U of Arkansas for my BS and MS, it might be a bit of a struggle to cheer for the Vols. But I LOVE college football, so I'll probably give in! :) At least I look good in orange!
