Was wondering if anyone had a problem with colocort enemas increasing their rectal bleeding? I have had weeks and weeks of Rowasa enemas which could not get me over the hump completely. Now I have tried colocort enemas for about 4 days. At first I was excited because I had a formed movement the first day and very little blood. However, as the days go on it seems my stools are more formed but my bleeding has really picked up.
I do not know if this is coincidence or not. Maybe just due to more formed stool. Anyone else have this kind of problem and did it pass?

They did not increase my rectal bleeding but I had to be taken off of them because I looked like someone had beaten me I had so many bruises. My legs and arms were covered in bruises the MD did some blood work and my platelets had dropped below normal range. He was afraid I would be in serious trouble if I got into some sort of accident. Call your healthcare provider and tell them of your increased bleeding....steroids rectally or orally are not for everyone.

Hope you feel better soon!

I was given a prescription for Anucort (sp?), which is a suppository, not an enema, but as soon as I used it, things actually got worse. I went from having one formed movement with some slight streaks of blood to going 5-7 times/day with mostly blood.

I went on Canasa (mesalamine suppositories) and it helped immediately, and got things back to normal within a month.

I don't know why that happened, and neither does the GI, but I just seem to be one of those people who has odd side effects from medications.

I hope you can get things under control soon with both the BMs themselves and the bleeding.

Hello psychocolon,

Have you tried Vitamin E enemas for the bleeding.  I use hycort enemas or cortifoam usually for my flares and bleeding but I also either add a couple vit E capsules into the full hycort bottle then add more onto the tip before inserting or I have taken the empty hycort bottle and emptied many vit E capsules into it and add warm water then insert and retain all night.  I find the vitamin E stops the bleeding faster and is very healing.  It works.

metamucil nightly

The hydrocortisone enemas I get are horribly made. The tips are ridiculous and 1 out of 6 may be usuable (Not smooth). If the rectum is already inflammed you have to find the smoothe tip and go with it. Use plenty of A&D or some ointment on the thing before even trying to stick it in. Nothing like trying to stick a sharp object into a swollen rear. Makes ya wanna choke whoever manufactures that portion of the bottle.

Puffed Rice is spot on with the vit E recommendation too. I have done that many times!
