Likely to be hemmies. Because we spend so much time on the toilet, we're especially susceptible to them. The other possibility would be a fissure, but hemmies are more likely.

Could there be an internal hemorrhoid that's acting up? Or, as my doc always says, there is the possibility of just plain ol' getting scratched in there (our internal tissues not being quite like others)...... I'd probably watch it a while and eat non-scratchy foods, then call the doc if it didn't let up.

This has happened to me too. I thought I was flaring up for sure and I got a mirror and looked and I actually had a scratch. You should try to look in the mirror or have someone look for you.
Diagnosed with mild proctitis in March 2007: Treated with Canasa (as needed)
December 08: Began treating with Asacol 400mg (9/day) + Canasa 2x/day - Anemic
May 09: Off Canasa, taking Asacol (9/day)
Back on Canasa every other night + Asacol (9/day) + Probiotics + Iron
Reducing to 6 Asacol/day + Canasa + Probiotics + Iron - So far so good!!! -SPOKE TOO SOON! Back to 9/day...

You could be getting blood from inside (as you would if your UC was flaring), it may just be that is the only UC symptoms you're having at the moment. Symptom(s )can appear at anytime in any order, you may have only one symptom for a period of time (long or short) IBD definitely has a mind of it's own...you could mention the bleeding issue to your doc, but regardless I would just keep a very close eye on any other symptom(s) that may appear as well.

Is there any blood along the stool? easy to see if it's formed.

It could be that you open a fissure...it can happen when the stool is more formed than when not.

You can take a look-see by squatting over a mirror....

I'd lean more towards a fissure because what you describe sounds like what I get.....take a look, it'll be a cut around the anus/in the folds.

Hydrocortisone cream (over the counter) will help or zinc oxide or the best I've found is by prescription called proctocedyl.

You'd likely know if you have a fissure because it feels like you're pooping out razors, it's a distinct pain when you have a fissure and since you mentioned you had no ab pain, ect I wouldn't guess it to be a fissure...especially since you also mentioned a moderate amount of blood, if there was a moderate amount of blood from a fissure, your butt would likely be so sore especially during bm's that you'd know it was a fissure.

I'd say hemorroids or fissures, as well.
22, female, diagnosed 3/6/2009, symptoms for 2 years beforehand
Mild ulcerative colitis from rectum to mid transverse colon
Currently taking Asacol (1200 mg 3x/day), Rowasa and Calcium/D supplements

pb4...I opened my fissure today while wiping. NO pain....so, small ones compared to bigger ones compared to Crohn's compared to UC...etc.

No, it doesn't feel like pooing razor blades...although a UC flare can.

I've only had small fissures and they definitely feel like pooping razor blades (has nothing to do with having CD or UC, fissures are fissures) and you're very lucky if you don't feel any pain from from the one that you opened today, but in general, yes it feels like pooping razor blades for the majority that have fissure(s) regardless of CD or UC.

I never got rid of the blood completely, even when I was doing pretty good (until Remicade).
Maybe that's your situation. I learned it wasn't anything to worry about, losing a little blood loss didn't affect my health.

But...you might as well do the hemmie treatments just in case. But it seems you would notice some pain from that.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering. Asacol maintenance for 20+ years; used prednisone & Rowasa for flares.  Probiotics (Ultimate Flora, 50 billion), salmon oil (omega-3) when I can remember.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; eliminated wheat/gluten from my diet.
Bad flare in March, used prednisone. Humira denied, started Remicade 4/12 and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow

I agree with Peety, I think it's more likely an internal UC symptom (or hemmie) than anything else.
