I was trying to get some soda I can drink(meaning no caff or hfcs) for a small party I was having (bunch of friends over for some tabletop gaming) so I got some diet orange, thinking that orange soda wouldn't have caffeine.

I spent the next few days in the bathroom, and my boyfriend checked online and it have only slightly less than diet coke. I drank most of a bottle over 2 days and my parents bought more for me.

It's really not cool that manufacturers don't put this information on the label. I mean, it probably set my treatment back a week or two for me to drink that stuff. With cola, you expect it, but orange soda is fruit flavored, and not known for being caffeinated.

I'm quite angry about this. =(

diet foods/drinks have artificial sweeteners. I, for one, would have pain and possibly some diarrhea. I wouldn't purchase it, however.

Really....7up or Sprite or iced tea would be good. NOT diet....

I cannot see that it would have you in the bathroom for a few days, however...

You're flaring?
Did you eat any other foods or overdo the orange drink?

Also watch out for Mountain Dew, it's the highest in caffeine!
It does seem that it ought to be on the labels.

Yep. That's why I have such a hard time eating out. Even a tiny bit of HFCS can give me diarrhea.
Joy - 47 yrs and counting; Dx Colitis Dec 06 (also had IBS); Currently in remission

Figuring out how to reduce a flare or get into remission is a trial and error experience. Don't expect your GI to have all the answers. He was trained in making diagnoses, prescribing medications, and surgically removing the colon. He was not trained in alternative treatments. That's why they are called alternative treatments.

What works for me: Fecal transplantation, Probiotics, Anti-inflammatory foods, No HFCS, No foods high in fructose, No artificial sweeteners, No pro-inflammatory foods when flaring, Vitamins, Lexapro (for stress).

Quincy-I don't have any problems with aspartame, but caffiene kills me. I can't stand the taste of lemon lime soda, as last time i mixed my colonoscopy prep in it. Next time I'll probably get some Jones soda (made with cane sugar). And like I said, I drank almost a full 2 liter over 2 days. And I had some sweets, but I don't think that was the problem.

Peety-yeah, mountain dew I knew about. Tis the mark of a gamer, haha.

subdued-I hate that, I either have to get something with caff or super-high-calorie, overly sweet drinks made with hfcs. Kinda limits me to water. And at a fast food place, I do NOT want to pay for a drink to get tap water.
