I need a root canal, any precautions I need to take to keep my uc in control. I am in remission now and i want to stay that way.
Diagnosed July 2005 with Pancolitis
Asacol 4 tabs 3 times daily

I didn't have any problems after mine. If the dentist put you on antibiotics, you may want to increase your probiotics while you're on them.

Moderate to severe left-sided UC diagnosed 2001. Flared for 5 years, finally in remission with Remicade since March 2006. Colazal,  Remicade, Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri.
Avascular necrosis in both shoulders is  my "forever" gift from steroids.

yes, he did put me on antibiotics. Thanks Judy for the info.

     My GI doctor usually puts me on Flagyl along with any antibiotic I have to take for other infections.
62 yr old granny. South Jersey
Diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis in 1998 in hospital
Hospitalized (2nd time) in May 2008
Meds as of June 09: Colazal (6 per day), 6MP (50 mgm), Probiotic (upped to 3 per day), Fish oil capsule, calcium, multivitamin, Cort enema nightly, Canasa in morning.  Also taking Benicar and Toprol to control high blood pressure.  Getting old is a b****.

Yuck...just thinking about that makes me shudder...I'd rather see my GI than the dentist!!
I agree with Judy, double up on your probiotics!!

Definitely the probiotics with the antibiotics.

If you have rectal meds, have them at the ready in case you start to have obvious flare symptoms.

But, all may go perfectly well and you'll have a nice new shiney tooth!

I've had 4 root canals and with each one, I came thru like a breeze. Of course it sort of hurt afterwards but it didn't bother my Uc much because I had them give me an antibiotic that doesn't aggravate my Uc much. But yes, double up on the probiotics.
