Hi all.... I have IBS and I am going for a colonoscopy in a couple weeks. I am 39 and have had these symptoms for a year and a half now. Does this sound like UC? I put on 20 lbs, extreme bloating, nausea, vomiting in mornings when I open my eyes (not preggers), major diahrea, some constipation, one black stool, occasional bloody stool, but mostly horrific cramping in lower left abdomen radiating to my lower back. The cramps happen a few times a month, sometimes more... they used to only last about an hour, but now they can last about 5 hours. During the pain, the diahrea is worse, it is hard to walk, I get nauseus from the pain. And now the pain is moving around more. It feels somewhat like a period cramp, but worse and usually more focused, and my back aches like a bad toothache. I am grateful when the pain finally subsides, but it is progressing.

I went to the ER twice, the first time they told me I had gas. The second time, they found a small fibroid (contrast ct) but my gyn said that is not causing the symptoms. Does this sound familiar to you guys? My gastro said it sounds like UC. I guess I will know soon enough, but I am looking at the forums to find relief and treatment. 2 more weeks is a long time to wait. I found some fish oil and I already took one tonight. I may get a few of the other alternative treatments I have read about just to see if it provides any relief....

Thanks very much for your input.... :))))

I'm so sorry about the pain you're having. I have not had the pain, thank God, but when I was in a flare, I would have D all day and night. I have pancolitis, but since your pain is on the left side, it may be your inflammation is primarily on the left which I think is more common in UC. I either have a very high threshold or haven't experienced the pain I hear others speak of. I have blood occasionally even though I'm not in a flare. It is usually brought on by foods I can't tolerate like tomatoes which are high in acid. Also, I don't tolerate high fiber foods. Have you noticed your pain is more if you have eaten certain things? Try a bland diet like roasted chicken or fish with mashed potatoes for a few days and see if it helps. And the noisy gurgling sounds are classic UC. Again, I'm sorry and I wish I had more info for you. Maybe some other posters can be more help when they see your post.

Take care.

Thanks for your reply! I really can't tell what brings it on. It used to only happen in the morning.... on an empty stomach. Even before the coffee. And today, no coffee, just water, and pain began an hour ago or so ago. But I did have steak last night. I started cramping again midly maybe 4 or 5 hours later. So, I really don't know. I am not drinking coffee today to see if it passes quicker. And I've taken a few fish oil gelcaps. But i will try a bland diet as well and see if that helps! And I will try to get out to pick up some spinach too! Thanks very much. I just wish I knew what this was. I am trying to keep track now, and it seems the pain comes before and after my period, then quiets down again. But gyn said nope, not related. My first time with him, and he really did not listen. So, it is confusing. Gastro said it sounds like uc. Well, anyhow, thanks for the recommendation and I hope you are feeling better! Take care!!
