I have been eating a lot of lot of oats lately and it seems to help, but i'm not sure. It may be my GF lactose free diet or the 6MP slightly kicking in, or a combination of everything. Oats have demulcent properties; so I was wondering if I increas my intake of other demulcents(slippery elm, mullein, marshmallow, plantain) if it would really help. I know many others talk of slippery elm, but has anyone explored more demulcents? Or even if use slippery elm or any other demulcent; how much has it helped you?
Asacol-12 a day
1 Culturelle
1 Canasa
5g Fish oil supplements
1 Vitamin
50 mg 6MP

I've used the slippery elm and I think it has helped. I've used the liquid and have mixed it with water. I'm not using it right now and I seem to be doing pretty well, so I figure it's my other meds.
How long have you been on 6MP? Pending the looks of my colonoscopy next month, my doc may put me on it.

I took marshamallow root for a long time, before I was diagnosed. It did nothing for my UC. Honestly, the only things that helped were the Rowasa enemas & Asacol- which I then quit about 2 years into it, now am on heavy meds & not too thrilled about that.

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day
various probiotics
Fiber supplement
