So I thought I would start on a fiber supplement to help firm things up for me in the mornings.  Well I am only on one a day (for now) because I just started them and I was planning on upping my dosing as soon as my body got accustomed to the fiber.  But I also have hemmies and the one a day fiber is starting to firm things up a little bit but my hemmies are NOT liking that at all!  I have been having bright red blood and I know for a fact that it is from my hemmies because they have been giving me a bit of trouble.  But the question I have is that can hemmies cause dark red bleeding as well? Like when the blood just sits in there for a while until the next bm?  I'm thinking about calling up my GI and ask for steroid supps to ease the angry hems btw, but I just had a question about the bleeding.

Hi Sherry...seems it's probably coincidence regarding the bleeding and the fibre. I would continue the fibre regardless....you could be flaring as well.

The supps will help deal with the hemmies. Would you consider to get them banded?

Hope this passes soon.

What fibre supplement are you taking...the metamucil caps?

Yes, I'm taking the Metamucil caps. And my hemmies, according to my GI, are rather small but they're big enough to cause just a tad bit of grief.

Usually bright red blood is from the hemmies and darker blood is from further. However, as you know the bright red blood can also be from a flare. I agree with quincy that there might be flare involved.

What's odd is that I have these little blips. I will do real well, no bleeding but I will have some left sided pain. And then I will start to bleed a little and the left sided pain goes away. Then I have a period in between where I don't have any symptoms other then D which is why I wanted to start on a fiber supp to see if it will help with that (I also have IBS). I'm at a standstill with my meds. I can't tolerate any sort of mesalamine (oral or rectal) and I can't increase my 6mp due to liver toxicity levels. So that only leaves me with steroids to help conquer a flare and I am very sensitive to steroids (cort or pred). So I've been basically dealing with the way things are and I'm ok with that. I don't feel sick and in fact, other then the fatigue, I feel pretty darn good gut wise. If and when I know that I am truly in an irreversible flare then I will contact the doc about steroid enemas.
