Hi Ladies,
Question for any ladies using any or all of these drugs. Have you found any of them disrupt your monthly cycle.

I have just finished a course Predisone, and I am getting Remicade infusions and taking Asacolon.

I was due my period this day two weeks ago, and it still has no come. pretty sure I'm not pregnant as I had my last one just before my last Flare which was so bad my husband would have had more chance with the dog.

any advice would be great

thanks

Checked into hospital on 30th July for IV steroids, and feeding tube, as weight was just falling off me, still no improvement.
Started Infliximab / Remicade 6th August, still taking Asacolon and weaning off steroids

I've never had a problem with the Remi, but I can assure you that the pred sent my cycle reeling! Hopefully things will return to normal; if not, I'd make sure to get in and see you GI or GYN. Take care!

I'm on Apriso (mesalamine oral) and mesalamine enemas, and haven't noticed any problems. But, I'm on the pill as well!

My guess is that your period is wonky because you're in such a bad flare. When your body weight drops suddenly and/or you're very ill, your body kind of goes into preservation mode, which can affect your periods. A lof of women with very low body fat rarely have periods.
Status: Remission since May 2009!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Diagnosed with pancolitis on 1/30/09
Currently meds: Apriso (4 0.375g pills ONCE!! daily), mesalamine enema twice weekly, Natural Factors Ultimate probiotic 12/12 Formula, and Zoloft (currently tapering; 12.5 mg).

Yes, great point Fruitgirl! Your body is going through a lot right now and being underweight is another reason you may not be having your normal cycles. The bummer part of it...and I know this well...is that your body is aching for the normal cycle and it's the pits! I would think...just start so I can be out of misery! ;-)

Anytime I am on prednisone my period is irregular. Especially if I was on a high dose for a time. My Dr. told me that is a side effect for some people. I wouldn't worry, once your off the pred things will return to normal.
UC since 2002- remission for 6 years
recent flare 06/09
Currently on Colazal, multivitamin, probiotics, fish oil
just tapered off prednisone

What are you using for birth control? I am on the pill so never notice any variation with all the other drugs.

Azathioprine (175 mg)

Hi girls,

Went to Doc yesterday and she done a pregnancy test and it came back negative. she has done blood test too, but won't know till Friday for sure, but she said it was mostly the Pred and the weight loss and then regain due to the pred that has sent my cycle into a spin. She said not to worry too much.
Amy, I was on the pill, but my GP recommend me not to rely on it as I had such bad diarrehea there was a fair chance that my body was not absorbing it, so it was not working. I didn't see the point of taking it if I was going to have to use protection too.
I was waiting for this period so I could get the rod implant done.

thanks again girls for all your replies
