I am flaring, only in my very first flare 8 years ago did I experience the amount of blood loss that would have the toilet bowl looking like someone had chucked red paint down it.

Now when I flare I don't get that, I only ever see a tiny bit blood mixed in with stool and thats not every time.  My main symptoms are nausea, gripping cramps which send me to the loo between 5 and 10 times a day and dull ache for the majority of the day.  I am also tired and sleep more.

Because there is no blood it always seems that the doctors don't think it's that bad but I still feel like crap.  It seems some people can get lots of blood but don't get pain which personally I would rather have as it's the pain that gets me down.

Do other people have the same symptoms as me.
33 year old female
UC diagnosed 2001

I didn't have too much blood, even when I was having 15-20 episodes of urgent diarrhea a day. When I started to go into remission, the blood was the first thing to disappear. I honestly don't think lack of blood indicates the flare isn't all that bad...it depends on what all other symptoms you have.
Status: Remission since May 2009!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Diagnosed with pancolitis on 1/30/09
Current meds: Apriso (4 0.375g pills ONCE!! daily), mesalamine enema twice weekly, Natural Factors Ultimate probiotic 12/12 Formula, OrthoNovum, multivitamin.

I don't bleed much...It's because I have a clotting disorder and I don't bleed much from anything.  My UC would probably have been caught years ago if I did bleed.  But yea I just have the achy, crampy and frequent loose stools when in full flare.  Lately I have been having some pain in the left side...
Left sided UC: Diagnosed 7/09
Currently on Pred 40mg, Lailda 2.4 once a day
Supplements: Bromelain 3 times a day, Tummeric 3 times a day, Good Belly probiotics 1 time a day. Multi, Vit D, B-complex...

currently on the down side of a flair....

Absolutely you're flaring. There are varying degrees of inflammation and symptoms, and you should be treated for inflammation and flaring.

You should......and I stress this....be on rectal meds. Please ask for them.

As well, you should ask for an antispasmodic. I use dicyclomine. Start out with the lowest dosage of 10mg.

What's with some doctors\????
