Hi Guys,
Hope everyone is doing well.
I recently got laidoff and im almost done with my meds in about a week.
Knowing that Canasa is a very $$$$ med  (i take 2 - one at bedtime and one after bowel movement in the morning) and 9 Colazal generics (3 tab 3 times a day)....
These meds make a miracle for me and i HONESTLY dont know wt to do?
ANY help would be appreciated....
1) anything cheaper to replace cansa and colazal?
2) goverment help?
3)should i start tapering down?
THANK YOU in advance

Check out the last post in the "sticky thread" at the top of the forum's main page (it's titled UC resources, or something like that). I submitted a post to it last week with a link to a website that gives links to patient assitance programs for drugs used to treat UC. There is also a link to find free/reduced cost clinics, if you need to see a doctor as well.

Also, you should probably look into COBRA, so that you don't have a lapse in insurance coverage. Once you find a new job, you could have trouble getting insurance due to having a pre-existing condition if you have a lapse in coverage.

You can get the colazal for free through patient assistance. Not sure on canasa. I should have a thread around that has the phone numbers for each one.

Patient assistance, and I second paying for COBRA. I've had to do so as I've only been able to get crappy jobs and my dad is laid off, as well.

Canasa has an excellent patient assistance program. it is through Axcan Pharma. They pay 100%. I pay $2 for filling. You should get the card ASAP. It has truly been a life saver for me.
Diagnosed with mild proctitis in March 2007: Treated with Canasa (as needed)
Horrible relapse: August 08 - December 08: Began treating with Asacol 400mg (9/day) + Canasa 2x/day - Anemic
Canasa nightly + Asacol (9/day) + Probiotics + Iron
