For the past 3 years I have been experiencing a pain that seems to start in my right pelvic/groin area.  My right buttock is very achey the ache frequently tends to radiate down my right thigh.  This ache is severe enough to keep my awake at night.  It also tends to ache more when I’m sitting for long periods of time.  I have a rectocele and have many small BMs during the day and a lot of gas.  I fasted for a day to try to clean out my system to see if it would help.  The ache got less severe, but I still had the pain in my groin/pelvis area.  I have had an ultrasound, MRI, colonoscopy all with normal results.

Are there any blood tests or any other tests that I can have that might help narrow down my problem?  Should I go back to the gastro doctor?  Should I go to the surgeon for an exploratory laproscopy?  Would a femoral hernia cause these types of symptoms?  I eat well, but do not exercize much.  Lately I have been slowly losing weight.  I weigh about 112 right now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I'm starting to panic about all this.

Well I am quite new to all this but I've been doing alot of reading lately and I know I read that sometimes Chron's patients have lower right sided pain. It doesn't look like you've had an upper GI test. I'm actually having one of those to rule out Chron's as the docs think I have UC but want to be sure. Maybe you could ask about that?

There are lots of people here who I'm sure will have more in depth responses but thought I'd reply with what I'd read.

Good luck!

I have never had your particular problem, but could it be that your bowels are swollen from inflammation and because of that they are pushing on your sciatic nerve?  That would explain the pain down your leg.  Something to ask the doc.  Hope someone else can give you more insight!  Sorry.  HOpe you feel better.

Hi - I think you should call your gastro. But, having said that, I'd been having pain in my groin on the right side, and pains in the buttock that radiated down. I can't tell you the horrible things I imagined might be wrong! (Well, you've probably imagined those, too.) It turned out I have arthritis in the right hip, and what's been hurting has been arthritic-type cysts on the groin side of the joint, and in response to the whole thing, hip bursitis and muscle spasms through the right bun.
I really thought my issue was GI related or maybe female stuff - I really found it difficult to tell which system my pain was related to.
Maybe your gastro (or another doctor? whichever one you have most confidence in) could help you figure it out.
Best of luck to you, it's not fun, whatever the cause.

I have had x-rays of the hips and the dr. said there was no evidence of arthritis. I don't feel that it's the sciatic nerve, it's not the sharp pain of a sciatic nerve, it's more a continuous dull ache.

What doctor do you visit to help you get to the bottom of this? Both my gyn and my family doctor want to send me for an exploratory laporoscopy. I just don't feel good about having a surgeon go in there blindly looking for something to fix! Who can you trust to get you though the process of figuring out what's wrong?

I have crohn's colitis, and the closest thing that you're describing that I get is a weird pain (once in a blue moon) in my pelvis/vagina area, like it's all cramped up or something, never had vaginal cramps in my life before getting sick with this DD and when the urge to go to the bathroom hits during those pains it increases the pain and makes it really scary and hard to "go" to the bathroom....because I've only experianced it a handful of times I haven't mentioned it to my doc.

I used to do kegal exercises and noticed that was around the time that I started having that issue, so I stopped doing them for a bit and then started again and noticed the same issue, so I don't do them anymore and haven't had it happen since I stopped for good so for me I'm guessing it's related to the kegals or just a strange coincindence (cuz it could happen again) so we'll see.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

I personally think I'd go for the Upper GI, Small Bowel Follow Through before I did exploratory surgery. But that's your call. I'm having this next week to rule out Chron's. From what I understand, your family dr or GI can order it (whoever you can get an appt with first I guess) and you have to drink barium and have a series of x-rays. There's no prep and no sedatives given as it's just x-rays. This would be less invasive to give a shot before having the surgery.

let us know what happens, I hope you get it figured out!
