Hi,

i started a few days with salofalk enema 4g, and i think um getting some good results from it, but i have a question.

I ve managed 2h:40 minutes, the medicine just says to hold it as long as you can.

After applying the enema, how long can you hold it before having to go to he bathroom?

12 hours sometimes...but that depends on if I'm flaring or not.

Are you laying quietly after inserting it?

So far you're doing well...that's a good thing!

Sometimes I can hold it and sometimes I have to let it out after only about ten minutes.  I guess it depends on whether you have some stool up there anxious to come out.

Diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis in 1998 in hospital
Hospitalized (2nd time) in May 2008 for ten days.
Remission Nov 08 thru May of 09.
Slowly coming out of flare.  Meds: Colazal (6 per day), prednisone 10 mgm and tapering weekly, Cort enema nightly, Canasa in morning, Benicar 20 mg for BP, flaxseed oil 3 x a day, fishoil 2 x a day, probiotic 3 x a day, calcium with D 1x a day and multivitamin.
Doctor had me on 100 mgm of 6MP which drastically lowered my white count.  Now off the 6MP pending results of repeat white count. UGH.

When I first flared I could only do aroun 2-3 hours. On this flare I can hold them in all night. (This also depends on the severity of the flare.)
This may gross some out, but I found the best way to do it is go on all fours, stick your but in the air. Then my awesome husband helps me out with the actual enema. Then I keep my but in the air for at least 5 mins. Then I lie on my left side for at least  5 and then fall asleep on my right.
Hope this helps,
Mel

hey, thanks for the replies.
Tonight i hope i fall a sleep with it.

When we go trough a flare up, my first since i was diagnosed 3 years a go we just want to get better.
This last 3 years were a normal life, i eat almost everything (no lactose food), i traveled, i got promoted several times in work and then when i least expected a flare.

But i'm keeping a positive thought, i just hope that tomorrow will a better day, and so on...

PS: sorry if my english sucks, but i´m Portuguese and english isn't my primary language.

Your English is fine and easy to understand.

I hope you can retain it longer...let us know how you did.

It's excellent, and that should improve a lot over a week or so.

Make sure you stay on them until you're back to "normal"..then you'll have to taper to a maintenance level (which many find twice a week is best).

Are you in Canada or UK?
