Oh, I can feel your frustration! I had the same problem, an avid hiker who had hiking taken away by UC. I opted for surgery after 2 years of not feeling as if I had a quality of life. Since my jpouch surgery I have done 5 hikes between 100-200 miles each, both in the California Sierra Nevadas and in Europe. I have had my life back these past 8 years since surgery and no longer have to worry about when and where I can hike, life is predictable.

1998 started prednisone, asacol, pentasa, nortriptylene, ativan, 6MP, rowasa enemas and suppositories, hydrocortisone enemas, tried the SCD diet, being a vegetarian, omega 3s, flax, pranic healing, yoga, acupuncture, probiotics
2000 lost all my B-12 stores and became anemic
2001 opted for j-pouch surgery- now living life med-free
