Hello All -

I have been on 40 mg of pred for a week and have gone down to one BM a day - not always a totally a normally formed BM but not "D" either. I am still having some slight blood and mucus in the mornings though so last night I decided to add a cort enema back to my schedule.  I also am suppose to taper down to 30 mg Wednesday and thought that adding the cort enema might help with the taper.

However, today (after adding the cort enema last night) I had four BM's in the morning - very soft and mushy and also had some cramping.  Worst morning since starting the pred...  Adding the enema seemed to really make things MUCH worse so I am afraid to do it again tonight - it almost had a laxative effect this time it seems...which I DO NOT NEED!  Has anyone else experienced something like that when using the enemas?  I am actually hoping it was the enema and not that the pred is failing to continue to work!  I am considering just using a Canasa at night and in the morning to help with the taper instead of the enemas.  I also do not want to taper too quickly but do not have enough pills to prolong it too far out...

I recently had a similar reaction. Over Labor Day weekend I noticed that whenever I did a canasa suppository or rowasa enema I had a hard time retaining and more blood and diarrhea than previously. I took a week off and my BMs became much more formed. I then did another suppository one night and immediately had diarrhea all night, more blood, and intense left side pain. I also had the same with the enema. I've been tolerating them well for 2 years and now it appears that they cause some kind of reaction. I'm afraid to take them now. I am doing the cortifoam which doesn't result in the same reaction but having a hard time stopping the bleeding this time around.

I have not used a cort enema, but have used anucort suppositories, and I had the same kind of reaction. I was having one BM per day, but with streaks of blood and the doc thought it was because of hemmies. After using the anucort twice, I went back into a flare-going 5-7 times a day with blood and mucus,

I stopped that, needless to say, and started canasa, and that helped get me back to normal. It wasn't immediate, but it didn't take too long.

Good luck with your taper!

I am glad I am not the only one, I am going to just stick with the Canasa and see if that helps!
