Glad things are getting better! I am kind of similar (in having a setback, anyway), because I was so, so, so close to getting into remission, then caught a tummy bug from my son, which threw me back into the flare. I ended up having to go on pred at that point, b/c I had an interview coming up I needed to be well for.
And yeah, we've talked a lot about
rectal meds! If it were me, I'd prefer adding the rectal meds before upping the Asacol. I started at the max dose, but I was going 15-20x's a day when I was diagnosed and was about
25 lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight (this was about
3.5 months post-partum). So my doc really hit it hard. I'm still at the maximum dose (even though I switched to Apriso) and my GI wants me to stay at the max dose until I've been in remission for a year. I see him again in January, and will ask again about
reducing, so long as I remain blip-free until then!
Status: Remission since May 2009!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Diagnosed with pancolitis on 1/30/09
Current meds: Apriso (4 0.375g pills ONCE!! daily), mesalamine enema twice weekly, Natural Factors Ultimate probiotic 12/12 Formula, OrthoNovum, multivitamin.
