Okay, So I just found out a kid at the preschool I work at has the Swine Flu...

I'm on Remicaid and worried... If you are or if you were on Remicaid... would YOU be nervous about working in the small school where someone had swine flu??

I'd get the swine flu injection if I were your age and worked with children. You shouldn't get the flu-mist, as you're not supposed to take any immunizations with live vaccines if you're on an immunosuppressant.

On the other hand, I rarely catch anything, even when I was on Imuran. I think my immune system is so ramped up nothing will really completely dampen it down.

Mesalamine is not my friend and steroids are from the devil. Remicade has been my miracle drug.

I've got to say that over the last four years, the folks in my office have been very sick (and I mean the same folks over and over) and some years I have gotten the average flu, not sure what to expect this year, but I would suggest getting your flu shot. The colds have been going around and I've yet to get it; and also been traveling via plane quite a bit lately and haven't gotten anything. The Swine vaccine is not out here in the Sacramento, CA area yet, but when it does show up, I plan to get it. Just remember to wash those hands, keep your hands away from the nose and mouth.

Nope, don't worry about it, and I wouldn't get a vaccine, it will probably make you get the flu, it is poorly tested, and full of mercury and other chemicals that will make your immune system go nuts. Do the research.

Swine Flu is a hyped up scare tactic to sell vaccines, far more people die from just your run of the mill flu bug and other things like pneumonia every year. It's all done to scare people don't worry about it.

I had the swine flu back in the 70's -- I lost 20 or more lbs. and was very sick for weeks to the point of hallucinations. Please check with your doctor to make sure he/she thinks it's right for you.

The vaccine can't give you the flu as it's either a killed virus or an attenuated live virus. It is not poorly tested as it is made in exactly the same way as the seasonal flu vaccines. This year's seasonal flu contains an H1N1 strain.

In the UK the vaccine is free, why would the UK government spend millions on it if it wasn't necessary? If people (especially children) start dying of swine flu then I think parents would want something done about it, these precautions are the right thing to do.

I would get it. It might be too late for you, though, I don't know if it takes a while to take effect.

We think it might be going around my husband's school, but the cases are pretty mild if that's what it is. And, if that's what it is, my husband already got it. The congestion has hung with him, but could have been lots worse. I don't know, though, he never lost his appetite...
Is the kid very sick?

Well, I don't trust the swine flu vaccination yet... it hasn't been tested the way it needs to be and they're not 100% on what side effects it causes. I just don't want to get something I'm not sure of. As for the regular flu I've already had it this year... before I started the Remicade of course. I haven't gotten a flu shot in years...

Anyways.. I am a little less freaked out now than I initially was, but it's still bothersome. I'm just constantly washing my hands.

We haven't been updated on the child that's sick. I am hoping that no one else gets it.

The swine flu is manufactured and tested in exactly the same way as seasonal flu. Each year 3 strains of flu are chosen for the vaccine and are manufactured and tested in a relatively short time. This year's seasonal flu also has a H1N1 strain in it (not the swine flu strain). The swine flu strain could easily have been incorporated into this year's seasonal flu vaccine had it appeared earlier. It probably will be incorporated in subsequent years.

I would get it only if your doctor says it is okay to take with Remicade - since you work in that environment you are at a higher risk. My nurse told me that both the seasonal and H1N1 vaccines both take 7-14 days to be effective so even if you get the vaccine today it will not protect you from the exposure you may have already experienced...but it may help with future exposures.
