I dragged my feet on trying Azathioprine for months because of all the side effects and fear of problems in my liver and pancreas. But after a week of a terrible flare, I started it about 3 weeks ago and so far none of my fears came true. The side effects from prednisone are way worse for me and I feel better than I have for... years. Seriously.
I think you should give it a try, too.
Potato... Female, 59, dx 11/07 mild left sided ulcerative colitis (50 cm), 10/09 condition has "considerable worsened" (per my GI) to pancolitis
Currently on Pred 20 mg, tapering, (back to) Asacol 3 3x a day, Imuran 150 mg
primadophilus reuteri, children's Centrum, slow FE
omeprazole 2xday, oxazepam when needed, lomotil
Already tried: Colazol, Hydrocortisone enemas, spinach and sunflower diet (helped but didn't work)
