jmsdvs, I'm not on the patch, just 2 mg nicotine gum, and that only about 3 times a day. I've been using it since about November or December I think. I doubt it's enough to be doing anything physically but it seems to help psychologically. But honestly, I don't even want to get addicted to the gum, and I think I could, I was that addicted of a smoker.
My UC wasn't diagnosed until about 6 years after I quit smoking, so I'm not sure I fit the profile. But since I was initially diagnosed in 2007 as mild, it wouldn't surprise me that it was brewing in there for years before that.
It was completely shocking to me that the main speaker at an IBD seminar in Denver in Nov. stated that people who quit smoking, got UC then started smoking again had their symptoms relieved in TWO days! I couldn't believe my ears and had to ask my husband, who also went, if I heard right. The doctor was a well known GI from Chicago, I think, and the seminar was apparently sponsored by Lialda.
I almost didn't mention that here because the temptation to smoke to relieve symptoms is so powerful.
How fantastic it would be if the e cigarettes work! Thanks for your input wodin. How is it going, jmsdvs?
