hi, firstly i wud like to say how brave u r coping wid 2 illnesses. n also havin UC at such a young age must hav been hard.
i would like to tell you some things about myself which might help u make up ur mind. i havn't been bac on healling for a while n 2day i thought to check out the web.
i am 32yrs old, i had UC when i was 24(in 2002) n after 6 yrs of medication n steriods like prednisone, my doc told me i shud hav sugery becos my health was really bad, i was going toilet up to 20 times and only passin blood.i had no life with my children and my social life was none existant. at night i would ache wid pain n spend most of my time in the toilet.
in summer 2007 i was in hospital so they could give me steriods through a drip, that didn't help n they suggested surgery. at that moment i had no other choice n all my family said i should go ahead. i had my opp jan 2008, n had a bag, it took time but i got used to it n after afew months i didn't realise i had a bag, my reversal was due in summer (which you say u can't have), i refused it because i had my life back i could eat what i wanted, go where i wanted and most of all spend time with my daughter, even dressing her was achore before but now i was happy.
so they booked me for dec 2008, i am without a bag now.
but if someone asked me would you want a life with UC or a bag, i would definitely say a bag. after my last surgery the surgoen who did my opp said he has a bag and had it since he was 15 and now he was 38,n was very happy.
the thing is u have to think how ur life is at the moment and would you be better with a bag.
and remember everything has pros and cons, even life, so be prepared for some downfalls on da way, but the end will be better.
i am frm England U.K, and had alot of help in my recovery, espiacally from this forum. when i was in hospital my sister would write on here and ask everyone for advice and they are always very good an supportive.
i hope i haven't bored u but i wanted u to get some answers like i did.
good luck n tc.............xxx
