My eyes have recently become very dry as well, they are red, they burn at night and I wake up with my eyelids a bit swollen and sticky feeling..I did not know this was related to UC or having used pred in the past. I went to the eye doc and she said my eyes were just dry..no other issues..is this common?
Yes, there is a connection with eye problems and IBD. The question is whether or not these issues are due to steroid use. It's hard to tell, because many people who have IBD have taken prednisone. Of all the prescript
ion drugs, steroids such as Prednisone are the most damaging to the eyes.
BTW, Vitamin A might help in increasing tear production, which in turn can help reduce eye infections and eye irritations such as itching and burning.
Flaring very, very slightly.
Figuring out how to reduce a flare or get into remission is a trial and error experience. Don't expect your GI to have all the answers. He was trained in making diagnoses, prescribing medications, and surgically removing the colon. He was not trained in alternative treatments. That's why they are called alternative treatments.
What works for me: Fecal transplantation, Probiotics, Anti-inflammatory foods, No HFCS, No crystalline fructose, No foods high in fructose, No artificial sweeteners, No pro-inflammatory foods when flaring, Vitamins, Lexapro (for stress).
