Hi, I was diagnosed in march of 2009 with severe Uc throughout my whole colon. They gave me asacol, this is a 5-asa, I got very bad joint pain in my neck and wrists, then i started itching all the time, I kind of got a rash but not really bad, and then the cramping started, then I started going to the bathroom like 20-30 times a day. This happened all within two weeks of taking the asacol. I was then switched to lialda, samething happened. I was told I'm allergic to all 5-asa's. I was then put on Imuran, guess what, I'm allergic to that too. I guess(my doc says) that 50% of people that are allergic to the 5-asa's are allergic to the imuran too. Lucky me. I was on prednisone for 5 months(started in june), while I started remicade. I've had pretty good results with the remicade. I have some reactions to it and they say I'm still going to much 4-6 times a day. I say it is better than 10-15 times a day with URGENCY. Anyway, I would try the humira( my insurance said I had to do remicade first before they would approve humira). Good Luck!!
