Toughkicker, are you still flaring? If not, perhaps your doc just wants to see you since it's been a few years.
I sound like a broken record in my posts lately, but I'm newly in remission after battling a terrible left-sided colitis flare. I realize everyone reacts differently to treatment, but have you tried Rowasa enemas for maintenance? They've really helped me - and for most using them is simple and painless. (I swear Rowasa is not paying me - I'm just really happy to be in remission!)
If you're in remission but afraid to move forward with life for fear that another flare will eventually get in the way, I'll bet you'd surprise yourself with how well you can actually handle new situations. Just go one day at a time. I'm sure new medicines are in development that will eventually keep all of us more comfortable. Keep the faith!!
