No I was not on any prednisone, just the Imuran. In fact I had started a pred taper months prior to that and it was doing very little for me. So, earlier I had become steriod dependant and then the steriods very only so effective for me. The Imuran kicked in pretty much right away.
That's a good question but I have heard that many times before. There is transplant dosage and then there is the chronic auto-immune dosage. I don't know the amount. So far so good. As I have mentioned many times before, various GI docs (about 5) consider it a very safe drug. Even my immunologist/allergy doc says the dose is not that large given that it's used for many other conditions, i.e rhuemotoid arthritis, transplants, etc...

Dx: Ulcerative Colitis 1996 via colonscopy and biopsy. Pancolitis with chronic and moderate inflammation.
Started UC around 92.
Past Meds: Asacol and occasionally Prednisone
Have had 6 colonscopies throughout my hx with UC.
Current Meds: Imuran, started with 200 mg and recently lowered it to 150 mg
Most recent colonscopy 2009 after 6 months of Imuran, colon is 90% healed
Currently in remission
