Well I never tell my age when asked in person but for a fellow UC-er I will answer anything
I'm 55 (diagnosed at 45-46). I am only taking 6 Balsalazide a day now. Quit 6mp 8 weeks ago, no bad results from that. It wasn't doing anything positive and the side effects were not pleasant (fatigue, dizziness in heat, bruising). I also had a squamous skin cancer that I am suspicious that 6mp facilitated since I am religious about
30spf sunblock. I also got cellulitis from a very moderate finger abrasion. Due to lowered immune system I believe.
I'm sorry you have gotten UC at such an early age and hope you are able to find a way to remission.[edit: I re-read that you are IN remission but sense you'd rather be Remicade-free] It's taken me this long to finally get improvement and I never stopped trying. I am very intelligent (no low self-esteem lol) read everything I can about
it and yet it was my DH who brought an article about
gluten to my attention (Thank you Huffington Post). That started me on my road to recovery.
I know there are people who have had remissions like mine who are too nice to say "Watch out. It won't last". But I haven't had ANY remission in 10 years and I feel totally optimistic I can re-achieve it (IF that happens). I know that diet is the answer for me as well as staying away from antibiotics unless absolutely necessary.
