I have been taking Imuran for a little over a year now, first at 200 mg and now at 150 mg. It's not 6MP but a derivative of it. It gets converted to 6MP in the liver and work the same. I have had no issues with it that I can think of. I am much more at peace knowing that my colon has healed and I am going to the bathroom for a BM once to twice a day. I have chosen to try the meds first for UC before looking at surgical options. This is a very personal choice, some go straight to surgery and most like me will exhaust all the meds first before removing the colon. I have no regrets using the Imuran and I get my blood checked every 3 months, no changes in liver tests, etc... Pleae remember your immune system is more active with UC and these meds basically calm them down. I have not gotten any more sick while taking it. In fact I feel better now that I am not bleeding and my Hg is up. So if you trust your GI doc then I would take his/her advice. I have had no regrets thus far and feel good about
my decison. I have known many doctors placing their wives or their children on these meds for years.
Hope this helped.
