Have you ever been in remission?
If I were you, take a step back and take your time to decide, don't feel rushed in making a decision, I would write out all the pros and cons of each on paper. Talk to people whose opinions you respect, keep an open mind to what they are saying. Don't listen to random opinions from people that dont know whats going on but love to have an opinion anyway.
This disease affects each one of us so differently, what helps one may not help another. I feel like its trial and error on what will work and what wont work.
If you do go the surgery route, try and get as much info as you can before hand, if there is a forum , visit it.
best of luck, decion making can be hard and stressful, so go easy on yourself.
Diagnosed with UC in 1991
Only 3 flares (1991, 2001 and 2005)that resolved in a few months until Sept 2008
I have been flaring off and on(pretty much on)since Sept 2008- went on prednisone(for the first time) in Jan 2010 for a few months, but then flared again a few weeks after stopping the pred.
Lialda 2 pills
Rowasa every few nights
calcium , omega 3 fish oil, multivitamin, probiotic, metamucil
Status: Going into remission after a year and a half flare:
What helped me (besided lialda and Rowasa)
gave up coffee, black tea and dairy (noticed a huge difference when I did this)
added fish oil, probiotic and metamucil (has all really helped)
