My surgeon wanted me off Humira before the operation. I had only been taking it for about
four months and it did nothing for me. When I consulted with my surgeon he said to stop the injections. Part of the reason I had to have my j-pouch done in three steps is because I had been on immunosuppressants for years which could complicate the healing process. I had my surgery a week after the consultation but I was concerned that he was going to push it back because I had given myself an injection about
three weeks before. He's more conservative than many other surgeons but I think he's an excellent doctor and I trust his judgement. After Humira failed, my GI gave me the option of trying another drug that has been approved for Crohn's but I figured what's the point. Felt like I was only postponing the inevitable. I'm very pleased with the surgery, even with the bag. Still have two more to go. But everyone has to make their own decision. Good luck!
