I was wondering if anyone here uses stevia as a sweetener and if it bothers their UC? I dont use/eat/drink any artificial sweeteners in anything but that started for more health reasons when pregnant and I have continued with this post pregnancy. However, there is a product that I am considering using that has stevia in it. I know artificial   sweetners bother some folks, what about stevia?

thanks!

Stevia does well with me. I have order many different types, even the whole plant and ground the leaves myself, lol. Stevia in itself is not an artificial sweetener. It doesn't come from an artificial plant, so I would not even consider grouping it with the lab made sweeteners. You just have to watch how and what it is processed with. Just like maple syrup, honey, agave nectar.... etc. The more processing it goes through the farther away from natural it becomes. Delicious topic!!

Thanks for your reply. So for the stevia you didn't grind up yourself, where did you get it? And was there a particular brand?

Stevia is awesome....don't be fooled by Truvia which has Stevia in it cuz it also contains sugar and other added garbage in it...use straight Stevia, othewise you're wasting your $$$$. A teeny weeny bit of Stevia goes a loooooooooong way (literally), if you add too much Stevia to anything, it will have a bitter taste...it's known to be 300-400 times sweeter than sugar, it's recommended for diabetics as well, it's calorie free, research it and you'll find out more.  Stevia is 100% natural, extracted from the Stevia plant.

I think Stevia is a good choice, my health-conscious, anti-artificial friends swear by it. I like the taste of Splenda better, and neither one caused problems for me. (I had used Truvia! The packets were more convenient to carry around).

I've tried Stevia as I wanted to reduce the calories from using real sugar ... I personally think it tastes vile and on par with the artificial sweeteners which I cannot tolerate ... now it is back to the "raw" sugar for me.

Then you're probably using too much of it, if you use too much it will have a bitter taste, I literally just dip the tip of my tsp into the container and that's enough to sweeten my tea with....you may be better off using honey than raw sugar, to each their own of course.

I have not had any issues with Stevia and my UC. Like the others said, do not use Truvia. I prefer Stevia from Sweetleaf Organics. It is all natural.
