Sorry to hear about
I have never taken Remicade, but many posters have said that it takes several infusions before they saw beneficial effects.
Personally, I would avoid excessive amounts of fruits and veggies while flaring and stick to a low residue diet.
I had a flare where I needed high levels of pred for quite some time (a month at least) to get it under control. Dropping before you are in remission will not help anything. I guess the Doc is just waiting to see if the Remicade will do the trick. 20 mg of pred is usually enough to keep your symptoms at a reasonable level while they wait for the biologics or immunosuppressants to kick in.
Do you have left sided or pancolitis? If you have left sided, some rectal meds may help, although it sounds like you would have trouble retaining them.
Pancolitis diagnosed 2003. Subsequent flares limited to left side.
Flare every 2-3 years. Prednisone has cleared up flares until now
Asacol x12 daily
Apriso 4 tabs twice daily
Mesalamine enema twice daily.
Probiotics: Primal defense and VSL#3DS
Fiber: Psyllium and "super seed".
Tried Imuran but had allergic reaction and had to stop.
Currently mild flare last 6 months. Limited to Rectum and lower sigmoid. No diarrhea.
Added a cortifoam.
5 mg (tapering)
