As self-employed all our life we have had a high deductible for 26 years because we were healthy and it kept our cost down.
Now we have to increase our high deductible amount to $6000 to afford it. I can't change/shop for new coverage due to UC pre-existing.
We hope the heathcare reform is not reversed so that in 2014 I can finally shop for a new policy because it excludes pre-existing condition then.
Insurance companies won't change until they are FORCED to change by federal law.
Because 62% of Americans are covered for healthcare through their employer we (the minority) have to pay waaay more for our coverage. And as a person with a chronic condition (another minority) I can't change providers.
Healthcare costs are killing the economy, productivity and making people think the future is bleak.
My heart goes out to people who have to choose whether to buy their meds or their kids school supplies or even food on the table. It should not be this way.
