From what I've seen on these boards, it seems to be a general consensus that when you're making dietary or lifestyle changes it is best to make one at a time.  I'm definitely cutting out alcohol (boo!) but I'm trying to decide what comes next:  cutting out dairy or adding probiotics.  Does anyone have experience or recommendations one way or another?

Thanks!

We're all different in how we respond. Certainly lactose intolerance is common.... but for me, I continue to consume dairy products with no problem, and I respond well to probiotics.
I recently got off steroid enemas, and through a horrible stressful situation started to have some gut activity last week.... I upped my VSL to three times a day for several days, and... once again my stools are solid and less frequent.
The best thing for you to do would be to try one of the options you mentioned, see how that goes, then... may try the other! We are all different.

Because i am on a flare up i have cut out dairy and basically all whole grains and raw vegetables, and hardest of all i completely cut out all caffeine, all of this at the direction of a dietician and my doctor. So far ive been feeling pretty good but since its my reading week in a moment of weakness i went out drinking on the weekend and it had absolutely no negative effects at all. The only only advice i can give on changing diet and lifestyle is finding out exactly what effects you and then working from there, as far as i can tell everyone reacts different to different things. So far ive found my biggest problem is caffeine, within minutes of drinking a coffee i can feel negative effects however i drank a fairly significant amount of rum the other night just with fruit juice, felt great drinking it and in no way worse then normal the next couple days :)

Absolutely add the probiotic

Make the changes for comfort or stool consistency, etc. Food won't make your flare duration worse or better...
Some symptoms can be eased, yes.
