i have been eating garlic every day now...for a about 5 days or soo....raw garlic...i am noticing a bit of a change...there seems to be more movement in there...and i feel better in the mornings....not to much about half a clove. sprinkle it on foods or just eat it plain....not the best taste...but i was cooking one day and ate a a little bit....it is a natural antiobiotic and it has many benefits so maybe just maybe..this could help....someone try it....let me know....

remember eat it raw....and not to much.....about half of a glove or less.

garlic is well known for health. I add it to as much as possible. pesto with basil, olive oil, garlic and a little chopped walnuts=heaven.

Didn't you post this before? maybe I have deja vu.

Too much garlic makes me nauseated, but it could be the food it's in or if it's in too much oil.

I would never do it raw by my own hand, however.

Second hand garlic can definitely be offensive...but again, maybe it's the other spices or foods it's with.

I can see that it would create a bit more digestive action...not a bad thing necessarily.

yep. it gives me the same problems.

but probably some of us have different bowel flora and are unable to handle it since it probably unbalances it while for others helps restore the normal gut flora.

some GI told me once that my colon is a "fermentation" one - which means probably that the most of the bacterial strains in there live by this function. did not understood that well enough at that time, but since coming to SCD and started to avoid even so called legal foods that produce fermentation in my gut i've started feeling much better.
for some could be the other way around.

good to hear it's working for some :)

I've been eating raw garlic in my salad every day for years now. Before and after UC. (Had to stop eating salads while I was flaring, but I guess my point is to say it did not stop me from getting UC).

Garlic is very toxic and likely to aggrevate colitis

See study of garlic on rats

I eat raw garlic a good amount. I don't know if it has really helped or hindered my UC. It helps a ton when I come down with a cough or throat malaise, though. A quick italian recipe with raw garlic: Chop up tomatoes and garlic. Mix together and add salt, olive oil, and oregeno. Or if tomatoes aren't your thing substitute the tomatoes with cucumbers. My grandma always says that eating parsley helps take care of parsley breath and smelling like garlic.

First all antibiotics are natural obviously it is just that some you need rx for. Second antibiotics are bad for you unless you have bad bacteria. The good news is garlic is NOT a antibiotic of any sort so it is therefore healthy. Honey is safe to as it does not have antibiotic properties. But even if a doctor prescribes you an antibiotic buyer beware. If you have a cough or bronchitis even odds are it is a rhino virus or basic cold and antibiotics are antivirus which makes both patient and doctors idiots many times. I know this and I did not have years of med school. Narcotics help a cold though by letting you stop coughing enough for you to get rest and chicken soup does help. People should not say things like garlic are antibiotics as it makes people think that antibiotics are good to take. If I seem like I am on a soapbox it is because other people's ignorance is killing me because even though I very rarely take antibiotics, when other morons take them for a cold it still makes strains of bacteria stronger and harder to fight. So people that blindly take antibiotics are developing super bugs like merca and putting me and my family in danger and people who take antibiotics for colds already almost killed my mother because she was septic and it took allot for the antibiotics to fight of her bacteria. All that being said missk is right that garlic is good for you but is putting all of us in danger with her antibiotic ignorance. One more side note, probiotics are great on the other hand especially for colitis.

I takes lots of raw garlic and raw onions now but I'm in remission. I read it helps with candida overgrowth which tends to cause IBS like symptoms which I have.

I'm not sure about Ginger but Garlic fights Candida. This strategy might be beneficial to those that might have a Candida problem but probably won't help much with others. Thanks for sharing.

I was taking ginger root supplements and they also contain garlic. Love garlic!

I will starting them once again once I get some more semi-solid poo.
I like both ginger and garlic for many natural healing reasons :)
