I just started 6mp 50mg earlier this week for my tough to stop left sided colitis. I am tapering down my Prednisone dose, at 20mg now. After about
3 days of taking 6mp I started getting a sore throat. I am worried, if the reduction in immune defense leads me to get more sore throats and colds, I would have to miss more work than I typically would in a flare.
Anyone else get sore throats from starting 6-mp?

I haven't had sore throats from 6mp and I doubt you would have a reduced immune systerm after just 3 days. It takes 6mp a few weeks to get into the theraputic range where your immune system is less active (or overactive in our case). I have gotten a cold while on 6mp and I recovered the same as I would have before being on 6mp.

I'd say I haven't had sore throats but I kind of have but it's a weird one and it comes and goes. Every so often I feel like total crap like I could go a month feeling fine then wake up and feel awful like sore throat, blocked nose, feel like i've got a flu etc but then it disapears the next day :S? But yeah as notsosicklygirl says 6-mp takes a long while to get into your system and start working.

Let me concur the previous posters, I've not experienced sore throats as a result of starting or continuing to take 6MP. As the moderator and tank correctly pointed put, it takes the 6MP for about
3 months to start working fully in your system.
The hard part dealing with the UC always is that one hardly can pinpoint what exactly is the culprit for any side effects.
I'd not worry about
the 6MP, although I do comprehend the hesitance and even fear (I was scared to death initially) of starting a new, powerful, drug. 50 mg is a very common starting dose.
Hopefully your sore throat goes away soon and you'll can start enjoying of the benefits of the 6MP and get well.
Lav ya handle :)

Maybe it's the prednisone reduction? I got all sorts of weird things like that tapering off pred.
