Has this happened to anyone else? Is this blood? I've read that when bleeding is from higher up stools can be dark and that one should be very concerned.
Diagnosed w/ Proctitis 2002
Yup, the higher the colon is inflamed, the darker the blood tends to be. I've got pancolitis also, and experience the same when the whole colon is flaring. It's the black stools - melena - one needs to be worried about
(taking iron supplement also colors the stools very dark), which indicates bleeding in very high in the GI track, so the blood has been in the bowels for some time and turned black.
Do not be overly concerned. With pancolitis, the stools are sometimes laced with darker blood.
Get your meds and get well.
Hope this helps.
