I'm going to try the combo antibiotic therapy, and have a long reply post on that thread already. I am just wanting to know what, if any, methods you guys have heard of to help lower the possibility of C-diff infection during the course of antibiotics.

To anyone that notices, I've been posting many more questions than helpful replies within the last few weeks. The reason for that is a combination of declining health and a very busy schedule. Things are getting worse for me and I am working very hard on remedying this situation. I hope to be back in control of my digestive health soon, and then also have time to be more supportive to other members here.

Thank you very much.

The combo includes an antibiotic called Flagyl which is one of the ones used for c-diff. It should work to prevent it.

Good luck. Keep us posted. I have been considering the therapy myself.

Hope you start to feel better soon.
Are you on any probiotics, like VSL#3 ? With being on antibiotics, I would strongly suggest probiotics to keep the healthy gut flora flourishing.

Dx with UC in Sept. 2010.Tried various Mesalamine enemas/suppos/pills with Prednisone for several rounds without any help.Diet consists of mostly only protein: protein shakes w/almond milk, Liquid Minerals& Vitamins,Maca powder,L-Glutamine 15g, D-Ribose 5g, chia seeds,5-Loxin.VSL#3,K2,VIt. D3 100,000 IU every 10 days.Canasa suppos. as maintenance. But Transdermal LDN is working!!

Florastor is a probiotic yeast (not a bacterium) that has had success against C-diff, and my long-lost GI who was great (from a city I lived in long ago) told me to take it anytime I had to take antibiotics. Only problem is it's darn expensive.

The probitoic I see people talk about the most in relation to antibiotics is Florastor. It is a yeast based probiotic so it can resist the antibiotics, it isn't killed off by the antibiotics like most of the other probiotics we take.

I have read of people taking it while on antibiotics to prevent C-Diff as well as people fighting C-diff also taking it.
Diagnosed with Crohn's in 1998, father has UC we were both diagnosed at 20 yrs old.
Previously on Remicade, Humira - No surgeries so far

Meds ~ Sulfasalazine 2/2xday, Wellbutrin, Moducare
Supps ~ Culturellle, psylium seed, folic acid, magnesium, D3, K2, Calcium/Boron, multi-mineral.

I'm into my 6th day of the combo antibiotic therapy. I'm taking a packet of VSL#3DS every day. I'm also eating a little bit of sauerkraut every day. Sauerkraut is fermented like yogurt and supposedly has all the same flora as is found in a healthy gut. You have to make sure you get the fermented kind, not the cheap kind made with vinegar (like Bicks or whatever).
DX Pancolitis 2003. Subsequent flares limited to left side
Flare every 2-3 years.
Salofalk 12 tabs daily,
Probiotics: VSL#3DS. Fiber: Psyllium.
Allergic to Imuran

Flaring for the last Year!.. No diarrhea.
Colocort overnight, SFRowasa after 1st BM.
Went from 2 Colocort to 1 successfully. One more to go!
