Lately with this flare I'm in, I've been feeling REALLY thirsty a lot, even though I drink a lot of water every day. I don't know if it's related to the UC or maybe the Colazal or slippery elm I've started taking recently. Anybody experience this?
Ulcerative proctitis, diagnosed about 1998
Rowasa nightly, Canasa suppository in morning
Taken off Asacol under suspicion it caused low white-cell count
Fish oil, magnesium, multivitamin, Align probiotics
Allergies to dust, molds, penicillin, some trees and grasses, and cats (but I still have three!)
Occasional migraines
Pescetarian (eat fish but no other meat)

Are you having diarrhea? I get real thirsty, especially in the evenings - makes trying to sleep without having to run to the bathroom a challenge! Normally my thirst increases because of D; it's like my body is trying to replace the lost fluids.

I'm not having diarrhea right now. I was when I first started the flare, but that's gotten a lot better.

Having IBD tends to make us more prone to dehdration so it could be due to that...severe thrist can also be an initial indication of diabetes as well so keep an eye on things although it wouldn't hurt to mention your thirst to your doc.
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
Huh, I'd never heard that about IBD and dehydration. Makes sense, though.
At least I know it's not diabetes, because I just had my yearly physical and blood tests last month!
Yeah, especially if you have alot of D, but having a high frequency of BM's can lead to dehydration....I'm surprised your GI didn't warn you to drink plenty of fluids regularly due to the high risk IBDers have for dehydration.
Anemia can cause excessive thirst too. Have you been checked for anemia?
