Yes, most definitely bring someone with you. Although, in my case, I am better at understanding the doctors and asking questions than my hubby is..lol, but he gives me moral support!
At least your GI doctor recommends you seeing a colorectal surgeon. My GI doctor took it personally when I told him enough already with the medicine and that I wanted surgery. He said he felt he failed me and as soon as his associate came into the office, he left in a huff!! Not very professional I would say. Needless to say, I have never returned to him and he wanted to see me a month post op. When I was in the hospital, he never even inquired as to my condition (he was not affiliated with the hospital) when my surgeon phoned him to ask about my prednisone taper. When I returned home, I cancelled my appointment with him and never returned. Why should I? I believed I should have received more respect from a doctor who treated me for twelve years.
